Capillary Tube Selection Instructions

Evaporator Temp: The temperature at saturation corresponding to the evaporator pressure. Refer to a temperature-pressure chart.

Condensing Temp: The temperature at saturation corresponding to the condensing pressure. Refer to a temperature-pressure chart.

Heat Exchange Length: The length of capillary tube to be attached to the suction line. Attaching a length of the capillary tube to the suction lines is a common industry practice. While it may not seem intuitive, this practice will often improve system performance by a few percent. Valid range of heat exchange length values are 6 to 100 in. (153 to 2540 mm). If the capillary tube will not be attached to the suction line, a value of zero may be entered.

System Capacity: The capacity at which the capillary tube is to be selected.

This app uses the Wolf and Pate correlations to select the capillary tube. Their 1995 correlation is used when there is no heat exchange length, and it is a correlation of 11 different parameters. Their 2002 correlation is used when there is a heat exchange length, and it is a correlation of 12 different parameters. Refer to the ASHRAE Refrigeration Handbook for additional information.
